For the 2018–2019 LABA theme of Life + Death, we wanted a stark, clear message in the logo and type presentation. Referencing both the Bauhaus and Italian Modernist typography, I hand assembled the letters utilizing a rectangle as the building block.
While there are multiple avenues in presenting bold Roman characters, the Hebrew script is harder to find due to the small scale usage. I wanted to ensure the English and Hebrew script were of the same framework, rather than finding two similar typefaces and joining them together.
Life + Death starkly portrays the emotional barriers present without any flourish. In presenting the type alone and without imagery, we can craft a compounded idea of these opposites.
